People with severe mental disorders have a 10-20 year reduction in life expectancy compared to the general population, with the majority of deaths attributable to physical health conditions. This set of guidelines from the World Health Organization outline recommendations for management of physical health conditions and behaviors that constitute risk factors for non-communicable diseases, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, substance use disorders, tobacco addiction, and infectious diseases like Tuberculosis and Hepatitis B/C.
