Fourth annual national conference to showcase strides in the fields of complex care
CAMDEN, NJ – The National Center for Complex and Social Needs, an initiative of the Camden Coalition of Healthcare Providers, will host its 4th annual Putting Care at the Center Conference November 13th – 15th in Memphis, TN at the Peabody Memphis Hotel. Co-hosted with Regional One Health, a Memphis-based healthcare system providing accessible, efficient, quality care for individuals in the Mid-South, the conference will feature the latest complex care innovations from across the country.
The conference theme is It takes an ecosystem: Complex care across the community. “The theme makes clear that it takes more than a single sector to significantly impact the lives of people with complex health and social needs, and the conference will be rich with content that reflects this point of view,” said Camden Coalition CEO Kathleen Noonan. The three-day conference will feature plenary sessions, workshops, and innovative networking spaces that encourage attendees to absorb practical information for implementation in their own communities.
The Camden Coalition was pleased to announce earlier this year that Memphis-based Regional One Health had agreed to co-host the event. The Camden Coalition and Regional One partnership extends beyond the conference. Health Affairs recently published an article showcasing Regional One Health’s complex care model, developed in partnership with the Camden Coalition, to better serve the uninsured in their area. “When it came to creating the ONE Health Connect program, we knew that we could find strong support to do so at the Camden Coalition,” said Susan Cooper, Chief Integration Officer and Sr. Vice President of Ambulatory Services for Regional One Health. “Then the opportunity arose to deepen our relationship by co-hosting the national conference, which is a fantastic way to bring together complex care professionals and showcase the great work we are doing here in Memphis and regionally.”

The Camden Coalition and Regional One partnership extends beyond the conference. Health Affairs recently published an article showcasing Regional One Health’s complex care model, developed in partnership with the Camden Coalition, to better serve patients with frequent hospital visits due to complex medical and social health needs. “When it came to creating the ONE Health program, we knew that we could find strong support to do so at the Camden Coalition,” said Susan Cooper, Senior Vice President and Chief Integration Officer for Regional One Health. “Then the opportunity arose to deepen our relationship by co-hosting the national conference, which is a fantastic way to bring together complex care professionals and showcase the great work we are doing here in Memphis and regionally.”
The conference’s keynote speaker, Dr. Abraham Verghese, is a nationally bestselling author and a prominent voice in medicine with a uniquely humanistic view of the future of healthcare that marries technological innovation with the traditional doctor-patient relationship. In addition to being a deep thinker about the future of healthcare, Dr. Verghese is a phenomenally successful author with tremendous popular appeal. His most recent novel, Cutting for Stone, was a runaway hit, topping the New York Times bestseller list for over two years and earning a movie deal. His other books include My Own Country, a finalist for the 1994 National Book Critics Circle Award, and The Tennis Partner, a New York Times notable book and a national bestseller. His upcoming novel, The Maramon Convention, is highly anticipated. Most recently, Dr. Verghese wrote the Forward to the current bestseller When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi, a memoir by a young neurosurgeon faced with a terminal cancer diagnosis.
The conference will begin with a local site visit to Crosstown Concourse and Church Health Center, followed by a welcome reception and two full days of content. “This conference is a unique experience. As the only annual complex care conference in the country, Putting Care at the Center acts as a nationwide platform for professionals from all complex care sectors to both learn from others and highlight the work they are doing for vulnerable populations in their own communities,” said Mark Humowiecki, Senior Director of the National Center.
